I wrote a blog post about a friend of Dan and mine, Mike Banhagel. Mike’s persistence is beginning to pay off. The post received a lot of great comments.

Here’s another story, this time it’s about someone you may already know.

I keep a quote on my wall. The quote is about persistence. It goes like this:

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
Calvin Coolidge, 30th President of the United States

Many of you know Damon Alton. He’s a long time real estate tech industry vet that has worked for all the major players. Damon recently completed writing a book; it’s called “The 90 Day Contract” – A Dating Solution. The book’s premise is that dating sucks and he has a innovative solution for singles to meet and get to know each other. I’ve read the book and it’s truly an awesome idea! Quick hit of the concept here.

Damon successfully used this method while he was single. He was so successful he eventually got married and dedicated the book to his wife (everyone can now say ahhhhhhhhhhhhh).

Damon sent me a photo of his first shipment of books. What a feeling he must of had seeing them for the first time!

Everyone likes to think they can write a book, invent something, start a company, etc. Very rarely does anyone back up those words with actually doing it. Damon did it. Now he’s on his way.

Too bad Oprah is retiring. I can just picture Damon sitting in that chair telling her why people need to stop dating and “get under contract”.

Make it happen Damon! Good luck!!

Support Damon by ordering his new book on Amazon and giving it a good review! Great Christmas gift to give to any single people you may know!! Here’s the link:

Me and my Dad

My father passed away last week. Thanks to all of you that have reached out to me and my family for support.

I hope to see many of you later this week in San Diego and share with you the wonderful stories I have about my Dad. He truly was a great man.

Thank you.

Is it just me or is everyone getting psyched about CMLS this year? Maybe it’s because, as usual, I know something you don’t know ; )

Merri Jo Cowen committed to host the event back when she was the CEO of Northern Nevada MLS. As many of you know Merri Jo has since left NNRMLS and is now the CEO of MyFloridaMLS.

Enter freshly the freshly minted new CEO of NNRMLS, Shelley Specchio.

So now we get two conference hosts for the price of one! Both Shelley and Merri Jo have been working very hard to make this event a memorable success. Just check out the Agenda page and see why!

Brad Inman is doing the keynote. I hear rumors of interactive screens with audience participation, game shows (with yours truly as the host!), and golf, at Edgewood Tahoe, and did someone say casinos!

When are we gonna have time to talk MLS???

So if you haven’t already registered get your groove on! The fun begins next week.

CMLS 2009

See you there!

Some of you that know me or have worked with me know that I keep a quote on my office door (when I had one!) or on my wall.

I just wanted to share a quick story about a friend, his name is Mike Banhagel.

Mike is a great guy and one of Dan’s best friends, he works in architecture and land development. Over 7 years ago he told Dan and I about an idea he had for a new kind of pot. The type of pot that are used in nurseries for plants, trees and such. This new kind of pot makes it easier to transfer large or small plants from their pots to the ground. He called them “zip pots“.

He had many false starts, and setbacks, but he never gave up. Even having a full time job he worked year after year on his idea when he could.

Yesterday Dan got an email from Mike with one of the most beautiful set of pictures I have ever seen. You see his pots have made it into a little company you might have heard of, Home Depot.

I’m going to add this picture to the quote on my wall to remind me to never give up, keep going, and “press on”!

Congrats Mike!!

I got much love for all you Vendors out there....

I got much love for you Vendors out there....

Alice from Inman News has the hook up for Vendor Alley readers today.

First up

“No Vendor left behind”
Everyone has that guy/girl in the office that wants to go to Inman this year but because of budget cuts can’t. Well not anymore. Vendor Alley readers who already purchased 2 conference passes can add a third for only $399. That’s over $500 in savings!

So bring them along! They’ve been working hard, and deserve a business trip to San Francisco. They will come back energized and ready to continue to do the work of the 3 other people you laid off last year!!

Contact Madelyn at 510-658-9252 x122 or madelyn at inman dot com to get the deal, make sure you mention Vendor Alley.

“Vendor Cocktail Tables.”
Alice also informs me that they only have 4 demo stations left. Demo stations are cool, just enough room to have a sign, a laptop and still have space for your glass of gin and tonic.

She is going to give Vendor Alley readers first dibs on a super deal. But you have to contact her for details ( hmmmm secret pricing). These won’t last long, contact Alice at 510-658-9252 x124 or allice at inman dot com.

This is very cool, and I’m sure he is going to hate me for posting this, but my partner in crime, Dan Woolley, will be moderating a special workshop for all the real estate geeks out there.

We were very flattered when the folks at Inman called us about the idea. And (I might be a bit biased) but think Dan is the perfect choice to moderate this event.

The special workshop, at Inman Real Estate Connect conference in San Francisco, is called “ConnectTech”.

“ConnectTech will give CTO’s, developers, entrepreneurs and product managers an opportunity to explore innovation in a program tailored to geeks, not marketers”

Inman News also profiled Dan, where he was asked several questions about his company and new product Dwellicious. You can read the article here.

The agenda has been posted.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, from 8AM to 3PM.

So get your geek on and join Dan for what I’m sure will be a great day!!
